How to get ready to emigrate to Costa Rica?


What documents should I bring from my country of origin? How to prepare the documents that I must present in Costa Rica to apply to my Residence?

Apostille the documents

All the documents that must be presented in the immigration file must be duly apostilled. The documents must be obtained in the corresponding institution legally for their issuance. After obtaining this document, the apostille must be processed before the corresponding Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Secretariat of State.

What to do If the country does not have an apostille?

If the country of origin of the applicant has not signed the Hague Convention for apostille of documents, the documents must be legalized.
To carry out the legalization, the document must be obtained from the institution that legally issues the issue. The document after it has been issued must be presented to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Legalization and must subsequently be presented to the Consulate of Costa Rica in the country of issuance of the document.

What documents do I require?

To apply for the residence, you must present the birth certificate duly apostilled or legalized, the criminal record certificate also legalized or apostilled. Depending on the type of residence that is processed by the lawyer will indicate the extra documents required from the country of origin apostilled or legalized

Requirements

In order to start a Residence or work permit or study in Costa Rica, the applicant must present the Birth certificate issued by the authorities of the country of origin duly legalized or apostilled WITH NO MORE THAN 6 MONTHS OF ISSUANCE ISSUED. If the document is issued in a language other than Spanish or English, it must have official translation to Spanish, this translation must be done in Costa Rica by an official translator, if Costa Rica does not have official translators for the original language of the document it must be translated into English or Spanish in the country of origin and apostille the translation.
It is very important that the birth certificate has the names of the parents.

Criminal record

Requirements

The applicant must present a certificate of criminal record not police. Issued by the judicial authorities or corresponding authority in the country of origin or in the place where the applicant has had legal residence for the last 3 years.
This document must be presented before the Costa Rican immigration authority, with no more than 6 months since its issuance.
If the criminal record document is issued in the country of residence and not of origin, legal residency with a valid document must be proven.
East document must be duly legalized or apostilled and officially translated, for which the previous guidelines must be followed.

Requirements

If the applicant is a dependent of the principal applicant, the documents proving that dependency link must be presented.
In case of being a spouse you must present the certificate of marriage duly legalized or apostilled If you are an adopted child, you must present the certificate of adoption also apostilled or legalized, in case you have a special case, consult the lawyer about your special case to tell you what are the specific documents that must be submitted.
